EUROPE

Important decisions regarding the design of textiles and the handling of used textiles are made in Brussels. They form the framework for concretization of the legal regulations in the member states of the European Union. In discussions and statements with European decision-makers, the Gemeinschaft für textile Zukunft (GftZ) advocates for a sustainable handling of used textiles.

The GftZ is involved with the following key decisions:

  • EU Textile Strategy
  • Communication from the Commission to the European Parliament, the Council, the European Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions EU Strategy for Sustainable and Recyclable Textiles.

  • Waste Framework Directive
  • Proposal for a Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Directive 2008/98/EC on waste


  • Waste Shipment Regulation
  • Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on shipments of waste and amending Regulations (EU) No 1257/2013 and (EU) 2020/1056


Networking in Brussels

GftZ is a member of the European umbrella organization EuRIC and is part of the "EuRIC Textiles" working group, which represents the collective interests of collectors, sorters and recyclers of used textiles.
